About Historical Arlington
Historical Arlington is an independent publication covering the coin, gold and money history of Arlington, Texas and the wider Tarrant County region. We write two kinds of stories side by side: the history of how money moved through this part of Texas, from Republic-era currency and frontier gold to the banks that lined downtown Arlington, and practical, plain-language guidance for people who find themselves holding old coins, gold or silver today and want to understand what they have and what to do with it.
Our goal is to be the most useful starting point for an Arlington reader who inherits a coffee can of coins, finds a box of old currency in a relative's desk, or simply wants to learn more about the money that helped build this part of Texas. We try to explain grading, mintmarks and pricing the way we would to a neighbor, without the jargon or sales pressure of a coin shop counter. For the broader Texas history behind our heritage coverage, we also point readers to established references such as the Handbook of Texas, the Texas State Historical Association's ongoing encyclopedia of state history.
Historical Arlington was rebuilt in 2026 around this narrower focus. Earlier versions of the site touched on general local topics; today every guide and article here is about coins, gold, currency or the monetary history of Arlington and Texas. That narrower scope lets our editors go deeper on the subjects readers actually search for, from what a Morgan dollar is worth to how redback notes fit into the Republic of Texas treasury.
